Monogram Pumpkin Vase How-To
- To make a template, photocopy a monogram you have drawn or put together from photocopies of letters you like. Enlarge to a size appropriate for your pumpkin.
- To prepare pumpkin, cut holes in both top and bottom with keyhole saw, remove seeds, and thin flesh as described in Basic Carving Techniques.
- Tape monogram template to pumpkin. Using an awl or T-pin, transfer the design, carefully marking corners. Remove photocopy. Use miniature saw to cut along outline made by holes, cutting all the way through flesh.
- Light pumpkin with string lights wrapped around a jar. Even out light by tacking a sheet of waxed paper over inside of monogram. Position pumpkin over jar, and insert branches as desired (bittersweet branches and pear leaves are shown here).
