Map Artwork

Introduction

Take a (road) trip down memory lane with this instant art. Hand-stitch the route you took on a vacation, and frame it. You’ll have a gallery of getaways and a reminder to look back fondly on family adventures -- including that time the car broke down.

Materials

  • Road map
  • Frame
  • Embroidery needle
  • Embroidery thread

Steps

  1. Step 1

Cut the map to fit the frame.

  2. Step 2

Use the needle to poke holes in the map along your route.

  3. Step 3

Sew along the route, using a backstitch: thread needle from the back of the map through the second hole in the route. Then insert needle into the first hole, and pull it back out the third. Continue along route.

  4. Step 4

Embellish the map with an X at your destination.

Wow, I love this idea. It's so simple yet kind of heartwarming. My husband and I drove down the east coast on our honeymoon. We had no set plans and stopped when something interested us and stayed in quaint out of the way inns. All these years later we're still talking about that trip and how it was the best honeymoon trip ever, lol. The one room hubby got to have complete control over the decor is the bar. This will b his christmas gift. I'm even going to embroider our wedding date at the top!
