    Go for the unexpected and emblazon upholstery fabric with your initials. You can make your own pilowcases or slipcovers out of the yardage, or even have a piece of furniture upholstered in it (as shown). It's all about teamwork: You do the drawing, a custom-fabric printer (such as spoonflower.com) prints it on natural fabric, and an upholsterer does the rest.

    Tools and Materials

    • Watercolor set, including brush
    • 11-by-14-inch Yupo paper (a water-resistant paper that doesn’t bleed) or watercolor paper

      Monogram Fabric How-To

    1. Experiment to create a monogram you like, painting freehand with a watercolor brush. Cover a full sheet of paper, right to the edge; fill as much white space as possible. Let dry.
    2. Scan letters, and upload to spoonflower.com; enlarge as desired. Check with your upholsterer for the yardage you’ll need before ordering.
    3. Take fabric and chair to upholsterer to have it covered.
