This recipe comes from Allen Katz, host of The Cocktail Hour on Martha Stewart Living Radio.


  • 2 ounces rye whiskey (or bourbon)
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth (preferably Carpano Antica Formula)
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters


  1. Stir ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry, or alternatively, garnish with dried cherries that have been soaked in whiskey or Grand Marnier (for a slightly sweeter garnish).
