- 2 ounces rye whiskey (or bourbon)
- 1 ounce sweet vermouth (preferably Carpano Antica Formula)
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
Stir ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry, or alternatively, garnish with dried cherries that have been soaked in whiskey or Grand Marnier (for a slightly sweeter garnish).
