Tools and Materials:
American flag bunting, 4 inches by 21 feet, 4-by-6-inch pattern, apolloflags.com
- Hot-glue gun
- Red-and-white-striped ribbon, 7/8 inch, mjtrim.com
- Leather dog collar, in Red, by Martha Stewart Pets, petsmart.com
- Dog Bow Tie How-To:
- 1. From a roll of flag bunting, cut 1 strip of 2 flags. Repeat so you have two 2-flag strips.
- 2. Fold each strip in half. Position them so that the open ends are facing each other and one is a mirror image of the other.
- 3. Place them so that the open ends overlap 1/2 inch to 1 inch. (If your dog is on the smaller side, you can overlap a little more.) Using hot glue, attach the ends together. Let glue set.
- 4. Pinch the middle where the two flags meet. Apply a dab of hot glue to secure the fold.
- 5. Cut a 3-inch length of the red-and-white-striped ribbon. Place the bow tie on a dog collar, and then place the ribbon so that you can create a loop around the middle of the bow tie and the collar. Apply a dab of hot glue to 1 end of the ribbon, and secure the loop by attaching the ribbon to itself. Avoid attaching to the collar. Let glue set.
- 6. When fitting your dog, adjust the position of the bow tie by sliding it.
