Cilantro-Grilled Shrimp with Sesame Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 6 cups (1 head) napa cabbage, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice, plus wedges for serving
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 32 medium shrimp (about 1 pound), peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup Asian Cilantro Sauce

Directions

  1. Step 1

    Heat grill to high. In a large bowl, toss cabbage with canola oil, lime juice, and sesame seeds. Season with salt and pepper.

  2. Step 2

    Thread shrimp on 8 skewers. Place in a shallow dish; toss with 1/4 cup Asian Cilantro Sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Grill until opaque, 2 to 4 minutes per side.

  3. Step 3

    Serve the shrimp skewers with sesame cabbage, remaining 1/4 cup cilantro sauce, and lime wedges.

    Fresh and light. So easy to make too! The shrimp and cabbage is perfect for a warm summer evening. Followed the suggestion of a previous reviewer by using two metal skewers instead of bamboo skewers. Worked beautifully! Thanks JerseyCook. Would definitely make again!

    Fantastic recipe: made it this weekend and it was a hit at my dinner party. SO simple, yet very flavorful, very fresh and light. I added some lime juice to the cilantro sauce, and 20 minutes later, all the shrimp were gone.

    I have been making this recipe for years now. It is easy and delicious. My family loves it. I even make larger batches to take to summer parties and cookouts. It is always one of the first dishes to go! And I've been asked to share the recipe over and over.

    This was in Everyday Food; I made it a couple of weeks ago. Its a great hot weather meal because its light. I would recommend using two metal skewers as opposed to a single bamboo one. The bamboo is difficult to turn with just one, tends to splinter, and burns easily, even with soaking first. This got my family's seal of approval - they just asked me to make it again, and they rarely ask for repeats.
