Egg and Tuna Sandwich
Martha shows actor Harry Hamlin healthy recipes for egg salad sandwiches and tuna salad sandwiches.
In a medium bowl, combine tuna, celery, apple, mayonnaise, basil, and lemon juice; mix well. Season with salt and pepper.
On a work surface, divide tuna salad among 4 slices bread; top with remaining 4 slices bread. Serve.
To make Susie Essman's favorite tuna salad sandwich, as seen on "The Martha Stewart Show," add Dijon mustard and mustard powder to the mixture.
The only thing I did different was to use good-quality tuna in water. Using fresh basil from my garden and the lemon was just outstanding--never thought to add either. Thanks for a wonderful fresh summer sandwich.
In a pinch, one could substitute fat-free Miracle Whip (gasp, I know!) I did, and the result was delicious, even without celery. I put it on toasted ciabatta, which was very complimentary. Kudos on this recipe, MS team!
Made this in the past and added pecans and cumin. Very yummy!
I usually add horseradish, a hard-boiled egg, dill, and some chopped dill pickles and/or red pepper to my tuna salad, but I never thought to add lemon juice or apples. I'll have to try those.
