Don't let the sinister name throw you -- these bacon-wrapped dates couldn't be more delicious. Martha takes them to the next level by stuffing the dried fruit with pungent Stilton.

Ingredients

  • 24 large dates, pitted
  • 12 slices bacon, halved crosswise
  • 1/3 cup crumbled Stilton cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place 24 toothpicks in a small bowl filled with water; let soak 15 minutes. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and fit with a wire rack; set aside.

  2. Halve dates lengthwise being careful not to cut all the way through. Place a small amount of cheese in the center of each date. Wrap a piece of bacon around each date. Secure bacon with a toothpick.

  3. Place dates on prepared baking sheet. Bake until bacon is cooked through, 20 to 25 minutes.

Variations

You can also use cream cheese or cheddar to stuff the dates.

    Stilten is not liked by so many that I know, so I use blue or something milder. I also add a sliver of almond and sometimes a walnut half. I love nuts added.no y2sz

    Where do you get the nutritional information for these receipts. I bought "everyday food, great food fast" Martha Stewart Book. Does not have nutritunal information for the receipts.

    What temperature are these cooked at in the oven. I understand that the bacon must be cooked through, but it it takes @ 25 minures, what temperature am I to use?

    I loved these!!! Unfortunately, almost nobody at my party did. That just meant more for me and my husband who loved them just as much as I did. I will definitely make these again.

    I make these for every party I give! They are so popular I often have to buy the biggest box of dates I can find to make enough! I find that using crumbled Gorgonzola is also good, as it is more mild tasting than Stilton.

    I can't even describe how good these are. You don't even need to put cheese in; they are so delicious. I made these and TWO hardcore vegetarians gave in and ate them, because everyone was sighing with happiness. NOTE: It's definitely smart to soak the toothpicks, however I only did it for 3-4 minutes and it worked out great.

    Being a vegetarian, I don't eat these but I've made them several times and each time I hear how much my friends & family love the sweet and salty combination. I will continue to bring them to parties. Thank you!
