Every spring, Martha looks forward to the New York Botanical Garden's orchid show, which showcases stunning specimens from one of the most distinguished orchid collections in the world. This year, Tony Award-winning set designer Scott Pask and image-maker Drew Hodges have brought the drama of theater to the garden for "The Orchid Show: On Broadway," creating dazzling floral displays reminiscent of some of Manhattan's most iconic theaters, including the Walter Kerr and the New Amsterdam.
More than 300 types of orchid species and hybrids adorn set pieces created in the ornate architectural style of classic New York City stages. Show tunes are performed on the weekends by vocalist Cate Cox, and an interactive exhibit is available for children.
"The Orchid Show: On Broadway" is on display at the New York Botanical Garden until April 25, 2011. For more information, visit nybg.org.
