Spiced Walnuts

These walnuts add some kick to Cristeta Comerford's Winter Green Salad with Honey-Apple Cider Vinaigrette.

  • Yield: Makes 1 cup

  • 1 cup walnut halves
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon store-bought Cajun spice mix


  1. Toast walnuts in a medium skillet over medium heat until fragrant, about 5 minutes. Add confectioners' sugar and cook, tossing nuts, until sugar is melted. Season with Cajun spice; remove from heat and let cool.

    I tried this recipe...didn't succeed.. the confectionery sugar did not melt.
    I had to salvage the nuts by adding water which dissolved the sugar. I will not do this recipe again. I was quite surprised since it came from the head chef of the white house.
