Basic Green Beans


This is a quick and easy side dish for chicken or fish.

  • 1 pound green beans, trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper


  1. In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook green beans until crisp-tender, 4 to 6 minutes. Drain; return to pot. Toss with butter, if desired. Season with salt and pepper.
