Every year for the past 7 years I have tried a different recipe for Sweet Potatoes on Thanksgiving to find one that everyone loves. I made this recipe this year and finally I found our keeper!! Everyone RAVED about it!! I used half the amount of ginger because I am not a ginger person. No one was able to guess what the spice was in it, they thought it cinnamon or nutmeg..lol and I am twice as happy because it is a Very Healthy recipe!! Thank you Martha!!!!
I have not tried it, but the picture is unappetizing.
I made this for Thanksgiving this hear and it really did get great reviews from friends and family. However, I had a hard time getting my apples to caramelize. I followed the recipe, and I used braeburn apples. It seemed like they released a LOT of juice, so I did pour some of that off. Any ideas on what I should have done differently?
I made a big batch of this recipe for Thanksgiving. It was delicious. I started the potatoes in the microwave to cut down on oven time then transferred them to oven to finish them off. Just be sure to poke them with a fork first. I also added a bit of cinnamon and used ground Ginger because that's what I had on hand. I coated the apples with a bit of lemon juice before adding sugar and caramelizing and they did not turn yucky brown
This recipe received rave reviews from my friends at a recent Thanksgiving potluck. I was surprised at what a healthy dish this actually was. I found that I had to cook the potatoes over 90 minutes because they were large. Also chefletisia's comment about adding cinnamon to the apples worked well.
This was great! Everyone really enjoyed them! Yum. I liked the ginger a lot. I will make these again, but maybe add cinnamon to the apples.
These are fine, but I prefer Martha's Mashed Sweet and Russet Potatoes with Herbs. I would not make these again.
I made this when it first came out in 1995 (I still have the original MS Living magazine, with all the stains on it lol) and it is the BEST. So delicious, so easy, everybody loved it. I'm going to bring it back this year!
This was so delicious, I doubled the recipe
I don't care for the taste of ginger so I substituted cinnamon for it. Umm, delicious!
I made this last year and it was a huge hit with everyone!
This is a family favorite!
