Silhouette Headboard How-To

If you have a slide projector in the basement, here's a use for it, or you can use a multimedia or art projector (sources follow).

Tools and Materials

  • Headboard
  • Projector
  • Botanical cuttings in a vase or other container
  • Chalk pastels
  • Matte-finish acrylic spray sealant


1. Prop up your headboard against a wall, with projector pointed directly at it.
2. Set the container of cuttings between headboard and projector to create shadows. Experiment with the distance between headboard, cuttings, and projector until you like the arrangement of the shadows.
3. Working in sections, trace outlines of shadows, and color them in with chalk pastel.
4. Spray work surface with 4 or 5 coats of clear acrylic sealant.
