Ingredients

  • 2 cups thin pretzel sticks
  • 1 cup natural almonds
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons dark-brown sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, toss together pretzels and almonds.

  2. In a small saucepan, bring butter, sugar, cayenne, and 1 tablespoon water to a boil, stirring constantly. Pour over pretzel mixture in bowl; gently toss to combine.

  3. Spread pretzel mixture in a single layer on prepared sheet. Bake until almonds are crisp, about 20 minutes, tossing occasionally. Cool on sheet before serving.

This has become an annual favorite for my office's cookie and treat exchange. I use ground chipotle pepper instead of cayenne, and sprinkle extra on before baking.

Gross! They burned, badly, and tasted awful. I used only half the cayenne pepper and they were still very very spicy, with very little sweetness.

Definitely gonna eat them when Celtics start their playoffs. Here is another recipe I think you might like, it's also about pretzels. http://www.fourgreensteps.com/community/recipes/desserts-a-goodies-/dipped-chocolate-toffee-pretzels

I love these! So good and so easy to make. This year I'm going to put them in Christmas gift bags for our neighbors and friends.
