Line a rimmed baking sheet with waxed paper; set aside. Break semisweet chocolate into small pieces; place in a microwave-safe dish. Microwave on high in 30-second increments, stirring after each, until chocolate is just melted, about 1 minute. Remove; stir until smooth.
One at a time, roll one end of pretzel rods into melted chocolate, and, using a spoon, coat each 3/4 of the way up.
Place pretzels on prepared baking sheet. Refrigerate until set, about 15 minutes.
I make these all the time for special occasions, in fact, making them tonight for my neices shower. I do the licorice in white chocolate which is wonderful and also looks pretty, I cut them in threes and just do half of it. also, I put chrushed nuts and jimmies on the pretzels. In fact, I also do chocolate covered double stuffed oreos and whatever else I can find around to dip. YUMMY!!

question how much shortening do you add to semi-sweet chocolate chips to coat pretzels or other food products?
This is for adventurous chefs.
oh, and i forgot, chocolate covered red licorice is also delicious - like a turkish delight chocolate bar!
my family and i have made these with a caramel coating first, then the chocolate coating, and then drizzled white chocolate overtop - so good! and you could do this on grannysmith apples too: caramel, chocolate and then chopped nuts.
So yummy and so easy. Used pretzel-shaped pretzels instead of rods. The perfect last-minute sweet snack!
I had no idea how simple this was going to be to make. So easy, so great!!!
