Maple Chipotle Barbecue Sauce

These canned chipotles in adobo are a great way to add intense heat and a rich, sweet, smoky flavor to sauces and other dishes.

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup dark-brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons adobo sauce (without chipotles)


  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together ketchup, maple syrup and dark-brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and adobo sauce.

  2. Simmer, whisking occasionally, until sauce is reduced to 1 1/4 cups, 10 to 15 minutes.
