Chocolate Frosting for Surprise Cookies

Use this frosting with Surprise Cookies.
  • Yield Makes 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Place confectioners' sugar in a medium bowl. Whisk in butter and cocoa powder. Add milk and vanilla, and whisk until well combined.

    I have a hard time with icing . Mine usually is lumpy and separates however this recipe was smooth and velvety . I loved it

    This may sound crazy, but I am not typically a fan of homemade frosting prepared with confectioners' sugar. Perhaps it's too sweet or gritty or something. This recipes is an exception. It's wonderful. I suspect the butter has something to do with why I like it so much! It's very easy to make and is just the right amount for 2 dozen cookies.

    I make this frosting for my italian Chococlate Spice cookies. It is an old, very old recipe.
