Classic White Rice

If you are using a medium or short-grained rice, reduce the water by 1/4 cup and the cooking time by a few minutes.

  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups long-grain white rice


  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 2 3/4 cups of water and the salt to a boil. Add rice, and return to a boil. Cover the pan, and reduce heat to low; simmer until rice is tender and the water has been absorbed, 15 to 17 minutes. Remove from heat, and let stand, covered, for 10 minutes. Use a fork to fluff the rice. Serve.
