The sweet patterns and crisp linen of my vintage tea-towel collection inspired adorable dresses for my granddaughter and some friends.
Here, my granddaughter, Jude, and I are joined by some little friends, all decked out in sundresses, tunics, and bloomers fashioned from linen and cotton dish towels that are decades old.
1. Make "lapkins" for picnics -- copious enough for the messiest fried chicken or barbecued ribs.
2. If you are lucky enough to own yardage, turn it into cafe curtains for small windows in the mudroom, pantry, or powder room.
3. Use the hand-embroidered types as liners for tea trays or serving trays.
