Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 ounces bourbon or rye
  • 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Ice cubes
  • Maraschino cherry, for garnish

Directions

  1. Shake bourbon, vermouth, and bitters over ice. Strain into a cocktail glass; garnish with cherry.

    Actually, while the Manhattan is a variation of the Old Fashioned, the Old Fashioned is made with either a sugar cube or a simple syrup and a splash of soda water and does not have sweet vermouth or a cherry (or any fruit) garnish. Both are, in fact, made with two dashes of bitters.
