Fried Egg

This recipe, a primer on cooking an egg perfectly, was also featured on Martha Stewart Living TV.

  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons unsalted butter, or bacon drippings
  • Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper


  1. Step 1

    Heat an 8-inch nonstick skillet over medium heat; add butter. When butter begins to sizzle, add egg; season with salt and pepper. Cook until egg whites are just set and bottom is lightly golden, 2 to 3 minutes. Serve immediately.
