  • 1 bottle dry red wine
  • 1 cup Madeira
  • 1 tablespoon ground cardamom
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Zest of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed light-brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup whole blanched almonds
  • 1/2 cup raisins


  1. Combine red wine and Madeira in a medium saucepan. Add cardamom and cinnamon; bring to a simmer over low heat. Stir in zest and sugar. Divide almonds and raisins among 4 cups; fill with wine, and serve.
