Bun Crossing Paste

Make this bun crossing paste as part of John Barricelli's hot cross buns recipe.

  • Yield: Makes enough for 2 dozen buns

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup flour (scant)
  • Pinch of salt


  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together oil and 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon water. Add flour and salt, and whisk until well combined. Let stand 1 hour before using.
