Preheat oven to 350 degrees; butter a 9-inch pie dish. Peel, halve, and core 3 Comice or Bartlett pears; slice 1/4 inch thick lengthwise. Arrange slices, overlapping slightly, in dish.
In a blender, process 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter, 1/3 cup each granulated sugar and all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 3 large eggs, 3/4 cup milk, and 1/4 teaspoon salt until smooth.
Pour batter over pears; bake until golden and firm to touch, 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature, dusted with confectioners' sugar.
This recipe is great! I have made this with pears and sprinkled a little cardamom in it and I have also made this with apples and added some Cinnamon.
Pretty disappointed with this custard. Came out really eggy tasting.
Ya'll..... please don't laugh, but I did not want to make my planned sweet potato pie, so I made this without the pears. just the custard. I really like it too. So easy and much less work.
This recipe is fantastic!
Taste like it camefrom a French country p?
Fantastic that the above person is perusing the internet for grammatical infractions! Get a life, enjoy the great recipe, easy and a WOW crowdpleaser, or is that incorrect English??
I made this last night and it was delicious! I swapped apples for pears - I used two apples (one large and one small). Two layers of overlapping apples. Wonderful. I can't wait to make it again soon!
Could I make with apples also?
I love this recipe, but the bake time is too long. I only bake it 20 to 25 minutes and its perfect. Could the bake time be a typo.
I agree with everyone about how easy it is. And delicious, especially with the Barlett's from my yard! When the comice are ready I will try it with them as well.
Super easy to make and it tasted great! And it comes out looking exactly like the photo, will make again in the Fall.
Very easy to make especially when you need a fast to make dessert with unexpected guests! My husband likes it.
I made this and it was an absolute hit! I think next time I'm going to swap out the pears and place apples instead with some freshly ground cinnamon. So simple to make!
Easy to make. Everyone raved about it at Thanksgiving because it was refreshing and not too heavy or sweet. I will be making this again and again!
A very easy dessert to make. Great with dark chocolate ice-cream
