Project

Metallic Shell Candleholder Centerpiece

Introduction

A collection of candle-filled shells brings natural charm to the table. Lustrous metallic paint gives them a glamorous holiday look.

We used clam and scallop shells, and added conch shells and sea stars to the display.

Materials

  • Newspaper
  • Assorted seashells
  • Metallic spray paint
  • Aluminum foil
  • Paraffin wax or candle remains
  • Pot
  • Candlewicks with metal tabs

Steps

  1. Step 1

In a well-ventilated area, cover work surface with newspaper. Apply 2 coats of spray paint to shells. Let dry.

  2. Step 2

Form foil into crumpled "cups" for support, and nestle a shell into each one. Melt candle wax over low heat in a pot. Dip a wick tab into the wax, then stick the wick in the center of a shell. Repeat with other wicks and shells.

  3. Step 3

Carefully pour remaining melted wax into shells.
