Poured Scented Candle How-To

Make your own scented candles to enjoy over the holidays with this how-to from Ramdane Touhami, owner and creative director of Cire Trudon, the oldest candle-making company in the world.




  • Beeswax
  • Vegetable wax
  • Stearine
  • Liquid candle fragrance
  • Double boiler
  • Glass candle container
  • Organic cotton candle wick, preset in clip


  1. Step 1

    Measure the following portions of candle ingredients by weight: 2.4 percent beeswax, 59.6 percent stearine, 28 percent vegetable wax, and 10 percent fragrance.

  2. Step 2

    Melt waxes and fragrance together in a double boiler; pour a small amount into a glass candle container. Set organic cotton candle wick in wax at bottom of container, then fill container the rest of the way with melted wax. Adjust and straighten candle wick gently as wax cools.

    I'd love to try this, but where do you find organic cotton candle wicks? I've found cotton wicks, but not *organic* cotton wicks.

    The idea of creating scented candles is great, I will use my favorite parfum for this project and I am sure the results are going to be great. I will ask my daughter to help me, she loves to take part in such home-made projects, the last time we made citronella candles and she enjoyed it a lot.
