Poured Scented Candle How-To

Make your own scented candles to enjoy over the holidays with this how-to from Ramdane Touhami, owner and creative director of Cire Trudon, the oldest candle-making company in the world.

Tools and Materials

  • Beeswax
  • Vegetable wax
  • Stearine
  • Liquid candle fragrance
  • Double boiler
  • Glass candle container
  • Organic cotton candle wick, preset in clip

Poured Scented Candle How-To
1. Measure the following portions of candle ingredients by weight: 2.4 percent beeswax, 59.6 percent stearine, 28 percent vegetable wax, and 10 percent fragrance.

2. Melt waxes and fragrance together in a double boiler; pour a small amount into a glass candle container. Set organic cotton candle wick in wax at bottom of container, then fill container the rest of the way with melted wax. Adjust and straighten candle wick gently as wax cools.

Candle Tips
For best results, keep the candle burning for two hours the first time you light it. That will make it easier to light the wick the next time you use it. Instead of blowing out the candle when you're done enjoying it, use a snuffer or your fingers to put it out.

Resources
Wax can be purchased at most crafts stores.
