Tools and Materials
Birch Candle How-To
1. Cut segments from a birch branch at various lengths between 4 and 8 inches. Drill a 1/2-inch deep hole in the center of one cut end of each birch segment with a 1 1/2-inch Forstner bit.
Tip: Clamp birch to a sturdy surface while drilling to prevent it from spinning.
2. Dip birch segments in flame retardant; let dry. Place a standard tea light in the drilled hole of each birch segment.
3. To display, group together several candles in various heights. Place branches, noble fir boughs, pinecones, and artificial snow around the candles.
