Leather Cuff Bracelets

This sophisticated leather cuff from Gillian Stevens of Dewdrops Designs can be made for less than $15. Give to fashion-forward friends for a stylish Handmade Holiday Gift.

  • Surface (decorative) leather
  • Tooling leather
  • Grid ruler
  • 45-mm rotary blade
  • Leather glue
  • Edging solution
  • 1/2-inch cuff bracelet clasp

  1. Step 1

Cut a 2 1/2-by-10-inch piece of surface leather, using a grid ruler as a guide (makes 4 to 5 bracelets).

  2. Step 2

Using leather glue, glue cut surface leather piece to a slightly larger piece of tooling leather, rough side to rough side. Smooth with hands to remove bubbles. Let dry overnight.

  3. Step 3

With craft knife, trim tooling leather around surface leather to make one neat strip. Use utility knife and grid ruler to cut the glued leather into 10-inch-long by 1/2-inch-wide strips. Apply edging solution to sides of each bracelet strip, starting at the top and pulling the solution towards you as carefully as possible to prevent getting any on leather.

  4. Step 4

Trim leather strips to desired bracelet size, accounting for size of clasp. Position leather strips into clasps; secure with leather glue.

  • wuhanlewei 15 Nov, 2012

That's cool, I will make one for my wedding on 12-12-2012!
What's more, I would buy a lot of wedding favors there:
Is there anyone give me some advise on how to decor for wedding reception?

  • Rejuvenate Vita 28 Aug, 2012

Regardless of the claims that you can't do this under $15, I have to say the idea is great, and seems simple enough to make once you have all the materials. Appreciate the details step-by-step instructions :)

I finally found some clasps! I'll post the entry tomorrow on or you can email This is a fun project once you get all the pieces!

  • 5534jewelry 23 May, 2011

BUY CLASPS HERE! I have stainless steel clasps for leather cuffs - large and small - contact me at!

  • ljordan00 12 May, 2011

Can you post a link Runyan. (despite the 300 piece order requirement). :(

  • Runyan 19 Apr, 2011

I found them on You have to have a supplier or buyer code, there is no price, and you have to purchase a min. of 300. So frustrating!!

  • dckelley4342 17 Mar, 2011

Shame on you Gillian Stevens. The clasps can't be found ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE. The bracelets that are shown that can b made for $15 are actually $56 and advertised "as seen on Martha Stewart". So, these can't actually be made for anywhere near $15. Plus you have to buy the clasps from Gillian, seeing that they're able to be found anywhere and everywhere... rubbish.

  • kat__wa 12 Mar, 2011

@ mcp201, those are not the same clasp. Look at the video around 3:15.
it is too funny that the lady said that the clasps were VERY easy to find all
    around the country! NOT lol

  • mcp2o1 10 Mar, 2011

The clasp is also called a deployant clasp. You can have a look at for the definition and I suggest you go to (located in california). You can also look on The prices in both sites are much better.

  • NewksLeather 10 Mar, 2011

If you do what they suggest above and email him for the clasp they can be found here which makes the statement that they can be made for under $15 false since they sell the clasps for $28 for a set of 2, then add shipping so if all your other supplies would have to be free.

  • ljordan00 10 Mar, 2011

I'm pretty annoyed. I've read through all the comments, tried multiple links, and spent hours searching the internet on my own. These clasps are nowhere to be found. Can someone in the M. S. Craft Dept. please offer us a direct link to a site where we can buy the above clasps or similar ones at reasonable prices (whether we chose to buy one or many)!?! The frustration in finding the supplies has really taken the enjoyment out of what appeared to be a very promising craft idea. TIA.

A small business that sells remnants of leathers to local customers in the Los Angeles ares is Standing bear's Trading Post
If you are not local you can purchase belt blanks, cowhide strips and more to create these cuffs. Another great way to purchase leather for this is your local goodwill, salvation army or other thrift ship, Purchasing old belts, wristbands etc and converting them into these wristbands.

  • msmellieus 9 Mar, 2011

I have old belts that are now unuseable because the buckles holes are worn -- these would be perfect for this craft.

  • mneci 26 Jan, 2011

I bought the same clasps as Vhast. They were pitted and cheap looking. Very poor quality. I'm sure they are not what dewdropdesigns uses. I have yet to find the leather, just faux. Ebay has leather scraps in bulk, not what I want. I am very disappointed in this project. How for $15 unless you buy in large bulk and make it a business not a hobby project.

  • CAMLatrobePA 24 Jan, 2011

No one responded to the comment about buying the leather. Mood fabrics is faux leather - where are people buying the leather to make these bracelets. Kind of annoying that the resource information is not accurate.

  • Vhast 21 Jan, 2011

I just received the Tibetan clasps. I am making bracelets with tooled and dyed leather. They look great but I can not get the clasp done and undone by myself. Is anyone else having this problem. I coud make the bracelet bangle style but I don't think they look as good as a closer fit.

  • CRSWINESYSTEMS 16 Jan, 2011

Thank you for the hard the research and diligence finding the "clasp

  • bethsalles 10 Jan, 2011 this is the website where I ordered my clasps. They JUST came in after I ordered them a month ago. They look like the same clasps from the show. Plus they are cheaper than buying them with the other company. Hope this helps

  • IHeartDonDraper 3 Jan, 2011

    What a cute project!

  • rpt 20 Dec, 2010

i have tried to find any of the leather cuff bracelet clasps on line to no avail, how can i order these?

  • sewinfun 20 Dec, 2010

  • MarcySZ 18 Dec, 2010

I just looked at Dewdrop designs/Jillians website... the clasp is $28.00 ea.!!!

  • meauxily 16 Dec, 2010

Very disappointing! The clasps on ejoyce are NOT the same and are not the ones we need no matter how nay times we are directed there!

  • meauxily 16 Dec, 2010

Those ejoyce clasps are just not the same thing no matter how many times we are directed there. This was a disappointing venture for me.

  • MSLO_Sara 16 Dec, 2010

Similar clasps are available at Joyce Trimming and M

  • MSLO_Sara 16 Dec, 2010

Thanks for your interest in this project. Unfortunately the clasps featured on TV are not available online. To purchase the clasps after the holidays, please email Gillian at Similar clasps are available at Joyce Trimming and M

  • cell44 15 Dec, 2010

    This looks super-cute. Thanks Gillian!

  • wiresmith 15 Dec, 2010 does not carry clasps like the ones used in the demonstration. The front row of bracelets have the clasps used in the demo. Dewdropdesigns has these clasps custommade in Chiina. If you look at the back row of bracelets, second one in, that clasp is found on A3796. It is a very pretty wrap-around clasp. emailed me that they do not carry the glue-in style of clasp..

  • mlaurin 15 Dec, 2010

I too was looking for the clasps, the leather and the glue! I don't know that the sources listed are in fact the ones that were used for the segment...the leather on the Mood sight is faux!

  • theinkqueen 13 Dec, 2010

Hi Ladies. I contacted a large finding supplier, Rio Grande, and they can special order the clasps. I will find out what the cost/ minimum order and will post here when I find out. They said it will take 4-8 weeks so we are out of luck for Christmas gifts. Has anyone found leather the in pretty colors shown in the segment?

  • emt317707 13 Dec, 2010

When I went on I could not find the clasp either. THen I noticed that seomeone had posted that we could purchase the clasps directly from dewdropdesigns. I am guessing it will be at their cost pluys extra. I guess this will make up for not buying the bracelet directly from them. I however would appreciate it if someone on Martha Stewart could find out where we can purchase the clasps ourselves. Any assistance you could give us would be appreciated. Thank you

  • BIBIONE 13 Dec, 2010

I haven't had any luck finding the clasp and doesn't carry them. I am very disappointed.

  • Sagehandcraft 13 Dec, 2010

I checked I looked under Buckles and Metal Closures" Those are Buckles NOT the clasp that Gillian used to do the demo project. The clasp is not anywhere to be found on EJOYCE.COM

  • Sunshan 13 Dec, 2010

Sorry - it chopped half of my comment. Look under Buckles - Metal Closures to find a "fold over

  • Sunshan 13 Dec, 2010

    ejoyce has a foldover

  • MSLO_Sara 13 Dec, 2010

  • debodebo 13 Dec, 2010

great craft, but no clue as to where the clasps could be bought from. could not find any on the internet. kind of annoying!

  • meauxily 13 Dec, 2010

How will we know where to get the clasps if they are available?

  • bbwvan 12 Dec, 2010

Love the bracelet but upset that the clasps are not around. How can you make something and not give all the information. If they are speical made then make sure you have something close to it that people can get. Love Martha but surprise she had this person on.If I come across something will let everyone know.

  • kellyblings 12 Dec, 2010

I heard back from Gillian at Dewdrop Designs and she said they placed an order for a ton of clasps and are just waiting for them to come in! They will sell just the clasps for us! Yea!!!

  • barbpeterson 12 Dec, 2010

So sad. Not only are the viewers "out" - but if you watched the episode closely, Martha expected to make a 1" bracelet . . hmmm, now where-o-where will Martha find the clasp? Hey Martha Stewart elves - sounds like an opportunity!

  • nightengale83 12 Dec, 2010

Martha, I agree with the comments also! It is unfair to show a craft to make and no one can find a place to purchase the clasps. Your guest should be kind enough to supply the information as the project was not for purchase because you withold where to obtain the clasp. That is how it appears to me!

  • CRSWINESYSTEMS 12 Dec, 2010

I agree with any and all comments regarding the clasps!!!!

  • rsvoboda 11 Dec, 2010

Martha, can you tell us where to find the bracelet clasps?

  • pjeree 11 Dec, 2010

Beautiful bracelets. Too bad we can't find the clasps to make them. I think I have wasted enough time searching.

  • jlcollins 11 Dec, 2010

Looked at jewerly suppliers, can not find clasps. Help!!

  • MDeToro 11 Dec, 2010

Has anyone tried making the other bracelets displayed that wrap around 3 times? It looks like they use a different clasp where the leather doesn't simply stick into, but wraps around it. Do you think using the leather glue and letting it sit with a weight would do the trick? Has anyone found those clasps?

  • bethsalles 11 Dec, 2010

As wiresmith noted. The clasp shown on the show are custom made. The ones I found on Ebay were the closest I could find ANYWHERE. I ordered them and will let everyone know if they come out like the ones shown. Thanks Kellyblings for posting the ebay sight. Forgot to do that. These were not "easy" to find. If anyone finds better ones let us know. If you can't get to the website from the email just go to ebay and type in the search-Tibetan clasp for leather.

  • djh1010 11 Dec, 2010

I agree we really need to have a source for the clasps. They aren't as easy to find as your guest indicated.

  • Knepper 10 Dec, 2010

Still didn't help, kellyblings--couldn't find anything on ebay.

  • kellyblings 10 Dec, 2010

Thanks to Beth's comment, I searched Tibetan clasp on ebay and found them from China. Here is the link. I have searched on every website given otherwise, and haven't found them anywhere else. Cool bracelets! Thanks!!!

  • kellyblings 10 Dec, 2010

  • StayseaE 10 Dec, 2010

I cannot find anything similar to the clasps she used for the leather bracelets. Can anyone help?

  • lawbabe6135 10 Dec, 2010

I have been looking at the Mood Designer Fabrics website looking for the leather and all I see are "faux leather." In the directions it calls for "surface leather" and "tooling leather." I'm confused!! Help!

  • Carobart 10 Dec, 2010

Where are the clasps available? Thanks. carobart

  • erinmason1 10 Dec, 2010

MSLO_SARA: Did you look on There is nothing like that. The point is to be able to glue the leather into the clasp.. not have to wrap it AROUND the clasp. Do you see the difference. Did anyone research this to find a suitable substitute? I have spent hours with no luck. Very disappointing.

  • erinmason1 10 Dec, 2010

This is ridiculous! I searched for hours and there is NOTHING remotely similar. That is the whole appeal of this bracelet is to be able to glue it into the clasp. I am so annoyed by this! Someone from Martha Stewart, PLEASE HELP!

  • MitchB 10 Dec, 2010

Just searched my face off, no glue on clasps to be found.

  • sheepsinthemeadow 10 Dec, 2010

That is so disturbing! I even went to AC Moore thinking that I would whip one of those bracelets up.!!! Nothing there!

  • eyeche 10 Dec, 2010

What's the use of doing a craft segment if you can't purchase the supplies? I couldn't find anything on ejoyce that works for a clasp.

  • slim82 10 Dec, 2010

she says you can find it anywhere there easy to find hahahah we are looking like mad woman and no one found it yet what a joke

  • Knepper 10 Dec, 2010

Look under what on that site? I still couldn't find them.

  • MSLO_Sara 10 Dec, 2010

    Gillian recommends for clasps

  • Craft-o-Matic 10 Dec, 2010

Seriously! I couldn't find them anywhere either after searching for hours. At least give us their proper name if you won't share where they are supplied from! Please!

  • bethsalles 10 Dec, 2010

The closest I came to that clasp was on Ebay. Tibetan clasp for leather cording.

  • wiresmith 10 Dec, 2010

I called the number on the Dewdropdesigns website and was told that their clasps are custom made in China.

  • Craft-o-Matic 10 Dec, 2010

Seriously! I couldn't find them anywhere either after searching for hours. At least give us their proper name if you won't share where they are supplied from! Please!

  • Knepper 10 Dec, 2010

Everyone is saying just what I wanted to--where do you get the clasps???

  • Murrer 10 Dec, 2010

I agree...not really a craft idea if all the elements are not available for purchase...very disappointing...would make wonderful stocking stuffers for my three daughters!

  • wiresmith 10 Dec, 2010

The clasp is beautiful, but I can't find it online anywhere. I cannot find clasps with the open ends to glue the leather into. I have searched jewelry findings, belt buckles and watch band clasps with no luck.
If anybody knows where to buy similar clasps, please post the website. Thanks!

  • bethsalles 10 Dec, 2010

Wow these are going to be very popular. Need to list where we can get the clasps please.
