Martha and Lloyd Traven make a holiday centerpiece using colorful poinsettias.
To turn classic Christmas poinsettias into a distinctive holiday display, horticulturist Lloyd Traven of Pennsylvania's Peace Tree Farm recommends combining them with other seasonal plants.

1. To make a table centerpiece, arrange poinsettias and additional plants in 10-inch bulb pan as desired. Fill in with extra potting soil if needed.
2. When the holidays are over, simply remove the poinsettia and replace with a spring-blooming plant.

Plants used on show include Rita's Gold, Rumex, variegated lemon thyme, Bull's Blood beet, peppermint-scented geranium, nutmeg, rosemary, Greek oregano, Pesto Perpetuo basil, and parsley.
