Cream Cheese Frosting

  • yield: Makes about 2 cups




  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract


  1. Step 1

    Place cream cheese in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Beat on medium speed until smooth. Add butter, and beat until fluffy.

  2. Step 2

    Reduce speed to low; gradually add sugar, and continue beating until light and fluffy. Add vanilla, and mix to combine.

    I love this recipe, it is so versatile, I add strained passionfruit (2 tblsp) for a different flavour or the same amount of either lemon curd or passionfruit curd & extra icing sugar to make it thicker. You may have to add as much as 1 cup more, always works for me & everyone loves it.

    This frosting is NOT suitable for detailed designs on cupcakes, it is much too thin and will almost drip off the cupcakes.
