Garter-Stitch Headband

Introduction

This garter-stitched headband will help ward off winter's chill.

Resources: Materials available at purlsoho.com.

Materials

  • 1 (50-gram) skein sport-weight yarn
  • Gauge, 6 stitches and 11 rows equal 1 inch in garter stitch
  • 2 double-pointed needles, size U.S. 5 (3.75 mm); adjust needle size to obtain correct gauge, if necessary
  • 2 single-pointed needles, size U.S. 5 (3.75 mm; adjust needle size to obtain correct gauge, if necessary
  • Tapestry needle, size 22

Steps

  1. Step 1

With double-pointed needles, work steps 1 to 3 as described in the Cabled Headband.

  2. Step 2

Change to single-pointed needles. Repeat step 3 of Cabled Headband until there are 28 stitches on your needle.

  3. Step 3

Knit every row until headband (not including I-cord) measures 14 inches.

  4. Step 4

At the end of this row and every row after, decrease by knitting last 2 stitches together. Repeat until 4 stitches remain.

  5. Step 5

Change to double-pointed needles. Knit I-cord for 11 inches. Snip yarn, leaving a 4-inch tail. Thread through tapestry needle; pass through the 4 remaining stitches on double-pointed needle; tug to secure. Weave into I-cord.

Where are the directions for the cable headband so I can follow steps 1 thru 3? This is the second time that part of the directions were missing on a project.

I like this headband but I do not knit. Do you have instructions on how to crochet this handband and gloves.
    thank you
