Pretty and comforting, handmade soaps make excellent stocking stuffers and hostess gifts. We placed soap blocks on ironstone dishes, then tied the two with ribbon. Adding a soft washcloth makes an even lovelier -- and more practical -- presentation. These soaps rely on French green clay and fuller's earth for their lovely tints and grease-cutting abilities.
- Fuller's earth, 8 ounces
- French green clay, 8 ounces
- Cardboard milk or juice carton
- Striped ribbon
- Clear glycerin
- White glycerin
- Dry milk
Strain out any clumps as you pour. Fill an entire carton, then slice the block into bars with a bench scraper. Or use bottom half of carton for a single large bar. Rip away the carton to unmold.
