Snowman Pencils

Make snowman pencils this Christmas with an idea from Martha Stewart.

Put these together assembly-line style, and you'll have one for every kid in class.

  • Two 1-inch Styrofoam
  • Pencil
  • White glue
  • Orange felt
  • Black beads
  • Ribbon

  1. Step 1

Make one of two 1-inch Styrofoam balls a bit smaller by pressing uniformly on a flat surface.

  2. Step 2

Push a pencil eraser into big ball by 1/4 inch; remove, coat with white glue; reinsert.

  3. Step 3

Glue on head. Brush with glue; spoon on glitter; let dry.

  4. Step 4

Glue on orange felt nose and black seed beads for eyes. Let dry 30 minutes.

  5. Step 5

    Tie on ribbon scarf.

Hey! I made 8 snowman pencils last weekend, hot glue worked really well for me and I didn't used black beads for the eyes I just painted them. I also added some little items like hats and I am really glad how cute they turned out.

Hi, again. The cotton swabs didn't work as well as I had planned, the heads of the poor snowman fell right off, to make headless snowman. Yes, good for Halloween but not for Christmas. Anyway... HOT GLUE RULES!!! Hot glue worked great for me to glue the heads together, so avoid the other comment I made on using cotton swabs, completely avoid it! P.S. another handy tip, hot glue the seed beads and scarf onto the snowman, I don't want to have my friends pencils falling apart in the middle of class

White glue didn't work for me so to attach the styrofoam balls I cut the cotton ends off a cotton swab and put the stick through both styrofoam balls leaving just a little left on the bottom. These will make great stocking stuffers.

White glue did not work to hold the head and body together. In stead I used a half of a tooth pick inserted from the bottom after making the whole for the pencil/pen. This is very delicate work with seed beads.
