Lisa Wagner, Supervising Editorial TV Producer for Martha Stewart Living, was determined to bring an urban aesthetic to her new suburban home in Pelham, New York, after moving from downtown Manhattan.

Lisa, her husband, Matthew, and their two sons sit in front of their 1920s Westchester colonial. Lisa used her strong aesthetic to accommodate both her tastes and the needs of her husband and sons.

In the dining room, Wagner chose a dark stain for the table to set off painted chairs, as an antique sideboard stands out against the gray walls. The chandelier adds a hint of color.

Wagner's preference for a subdued palette is apparent. Cabinets from a laboratory supply company hold white tableware and an array of glass compotes and cake plates. The island is topped with a practical butcher block.

Ironstone platters mixed with bright posters serve as decoration until needed.

The bulletin board in the pantry provides inspiration, memories, and a creative outlet for the family, especially Wagner's two sons.

Wagner finds many of her objects at flea markets and tag sales, and then mixes them with newer pieces. In the pale-gray-and-white living room, furniture from Martha's signature line sits beneath reproductions of old New York City subway signs.

By the fireplace, two monochromatic armchairs are enclosed by a rich patterned rug and ikat pillows, which give the room a bohemian quality.

Wagner's husband, a book publisher, was adamant that his several thousand books be accommodated. Thus, she turned one wall into a mini library where the volumes of books provide the room's only vivid color. The unusually long library table was a gift from Martha.

In the master bedroom, an upholstered headboard is ideal for reading in bed. Wall lamps provide proper lighting while freeing up space on the end tables.

A doorway in the master bedroom leads to a dressing area where a cozy seat is placed by a window.

The master bath evokes a black-and-white color scheme. The center of the room is dominated by an ornate marble-topped table whose mate is in the living room.
