Everyone looks forward to Thanksgiving, but sitting through a long meal can be a challenge for kids. A specially decorated kids' table will ensure a pleasant gathering for everyone.
Corn husks are a light but sturdy crafting material perfect for making the head and feathers of these turkeys. Use Hubbard squash (or any other winter squash or gourd) for the turkeys' bodies.
A feather dresses up a simple twill-tape napkin wrap, which doubles as a headdress during -- and after -- the feast.
Cut a small hole in the center of a 27-inch-long piece of twill tape. Insert a clean feather (available from florists' shops) in the hole, and stitch to secure. Center the feather on the front of a folded napkin, and tie the tape loosely at the napkin's back.
Guide young guests to their seats. Paper boats mark each place at a special table just for kids. With some assistance, kids can assemble the boats and write the names on the name-tag sails.
Felt finger puppets placed atop candy sticks and arranged in containers make a sweet and simple Thanksgiving centerpiece that will keep kids entertained long after the meal ends.
This little gobbler makes a perfect companion for a child's place card.
To make the head and beak, bend a 3-inch piece of brown pipe cleaner, and affix it to the top of a pinecone with craft glue. Glue three feathers (available at crafts stores) near the base. Station one turkey at each setting with a place card.
