Peter Nashel and Jennifer Chused and their son Benjamin's in his playroom -- a space that is youthful but not juvenile; the elegant materials allow the room to be used comfortably by guests. The window shades are part of a DwellStudio collection for the Shade Store. Chused used the same fabric to make the storage bins.
Recognizing good design when she sees it, Chused left the apartment's kitchen, with its butcherblock countertops, ample wooden cabinets, and white subway tiles, pretty much as it was. She added the flatweave rug by Madeline Weinrib and the bull's-head sculpture, a flea market find.
In the master bedroom, a chest bought on eBay is repurposed as a TV cabinet. To balance the feminine colors of a pink armchair and custom camel headboard (not shown), Chused opted for crisp shapes (the chest, the mirror) and bold symmetry (the stools, the framed prints), so the room looks tailored and not overly girlish.
