Project

Heart Bookmark

This practical valentine befits your favorite bookworm.

Materials

  • Heavy card stock
  • Decorative paper
  • Utility knife
  • Glue stick

Steps

  1. Step 1

Create a template of a heart, about 1 1/2 inches wide.

  2. Step 2

Cut out with a utility knife, and trace onto heavy card stock.

  3. Step 3

Copy it at 80 percent, cut out, and trace onto decorative paper, such as wrapping or origami paper.

  4. Step 4

Cut out both hearts, and use a glue stick to secure smaller patterned heart to center of the larger one; let dry.

  5. Step 5

Finally, trace bottom half of inner heart with a utility knife, cutting through card stock beneath. Then your valentine can slip pages between the hearts.

Great assembly-line type project for a handful of sweet bookmarks for a teacher or avid reader! Different colors for different seasons?

This would be great to make into a card: just cut a horizonal slit in the front of the card and slip in the bookmark. Voila! Card and gift in one!

my friend and I made these. They were very easy. We used a craft punch for the heart instead.
