DIY Dishwashing Liquid


  1. Step 1

    For greasy pots and pans: Try scouring with salt.

  2. Step 2

    For burned saucepans: Fill the pan half full with water, spoon in baking soda, let it soak overnight, and bring to a boil.

  3. Step 3

    For baked-on grease: Scour with a little less-toxic dishwasher powder or an enzymatic oxygen scrub.

    For really burned on food try covering the bottom of the pan with vinegar and bring to boil. Food will loosen and can be easily scraped off. Used this method in my restaurant. Smells bad but works like a charm for those really tough burned pans. You know the ones you thought you turned the burner off only to come back later and see the food in the pan is totally black and burned.

    Boiling water in a pan with burned-on food works great. I used to scorch rice pretty regularly and the mess just glides out after sitting in the boiling water for 10 minutes or so.
