A flotilla of apples bobbing in a steel tub evokes memories of childhood and headlong plunges into icy water. But carved into holiday candleholders, these apple votives are a prize for the eyes alone, their flames a promise of warmth.

Apple Votives How-To
Every apple will float differently, so see how they balance in water before marking their topsides with a dot.
1. Place the tea light over the dot, and trace around its circumference with a paring knife, inserting the knife vertically as deep as the tea light is tall.
2. Set aside the light, cut the circle into sections, and scoop them out with a spoon.
3. Squeeze lemon juice onto the cut surface to keep the apple from turning brown, and insert a tea light. Repeat with remaining apples.

This is such a great idea, and so pretty! This looks like a 'do' for next year.
I found a tool called a Candle Carver that is designed to carve tealight sized holes into fruits and veggies. Last year I tried carving mini pumpkins to put tealights in. That project didnt turn out very good. This year I'm ordering the Candle Carver. I found a website that sells it for $7. If anyone wants the addy please contact me. I don't know if we can post that info here.
What a great idea to put at the door for any Fall gathering!
this should create a really nice Halloween effect in the evening (when the trick-or-treaters arrive)
GREAT IDEA!
I love this it is really a very neat idea. Looks very nice at the doorway. Halloween is so much fun not only for children but for us big kids too.
what a fun idea, I will be hosting a Halloween party for my kids that will be something fun to have in the door way.
I have seen a tool that cuts out perfect apples specially to put votives in at A and P grocery stores.
I have seen a tool to make these cutouts specially for apples at A
I love this idea for fall. I plan on using a drill with a flat wood bit. They are extremely common
is there a tool to make the perfect votive opening?
