Hanging Bubbly Ball Decorations

These festive ornaments are reminiscent of Champagne bubbles rising to the top of a glass -- perfect for a New Year's Eve bash. They may look fancy, but the spheres are made from two commonplace, inexpensive materials: foam balls and baking cups.

You'll need two or three packages of baking cups for each ball. We used 65 mini cups for a 3-inch foam ball, 95 for a 4-inch ball, and 180 standard-size cups for an 8-inch ball.

Tools and Materials
Curved upholstery needle
Monofilament
3-inch, 4-inch, and 8-inch foam balls
Pencil
Mini and standard baking cups
Hot-glue gun
Ribbon, for hanging
Removable adhesive hooks (such as Command hooks)

The How-To
Use the needle to thread monofilament into the ball and out again. Knot the monofilament, creating a loose loop from which to tie ribbon.

Place the pencil eraser in the center of a baking cup, and bunch the cup around pencil. Hot-glue the cup to the ball, pressing with eraser to adhere to ball. [See image 2 above.] Repeat, covering the ball.

Hang from ceiling with ribbon and removable adhesive hooks.
