Handy Pins

A pincushion that fastens onto your sewing machine will always be at hand.

Introduction

Make a pattern: For length, measure the machine circumference in a spot free of dials, then add 2 1/2 inches. Choose a width that suits the machine (about 2 to 3 inches), and add 1/2 inch.

Steps

  1. Step 1

Layer a piece of thick fabric (for backing) and a piece of cotton or velour (for top) over two pieces of thin batting, all cut to fit dimensions.

  2. Step 2

Sew along three sides, leaving 1/4-inch seam allowance.

  3. Step 3

Turn right side out, and topstitch around all four sides, 1/4 inch from edge. Sew strips of Velcro to ends on opposite sides.

This is a wonderful idea..i can't use a magnetic pin bar or cushion near my computerized machine..this makes it much easier to keep track of those runaways..thanks always for the good ideas and very helpful hints...K

Hi, Great idea! I've always used a piece of magnetic tape right on the machine, then I just slide the pins toward it and they stay put till i wisk them away with my magnetic pin cushion. I'm way too impatient to take the time to "stick" pins in a cushion.

    Thanks for all the tips!

I love this idea. It is so simple that I don't know why I didn't think of it. I chase my little red tomato all over the place when I sew. Thanks Martha, Pam from California
