  1. Paint-Pan Liner

    Hide

You won't have to bother washing your paint pan if you line it with heavy-duty aluminum foil before using it. This trick is especially helpful if you're painting with different colors -- for each new hue, throw away the old foil (after pouring excess paint back into the can), and put in a fresh sheet, molding it to the inside of the pan.

  2. Wintry Scene Cutout for Gift Wrap

    Hide

Create a wintry scene on a wrapped present using a paper-dolls technique.

Enlarge the two-tree template to desired size; cut out.

Accordion-fold a piece of paper to the width of the template.

Trace the template onto top fold. Make "ornaments" with a screw punch.

Cut out and unfurl trees. Adhere with a glue stick or spray adhesive.

    Hanukkah Gift Card Holder

    Hide

Give someone the star treatment by presenting a gift card in this easy-to-make paper holder. You can also use the decoration instead of a bow to jazz up a plainly wrapped package.

Cut out a pair of paper triangles using our template, one blue and one white.

Using a craft knife, make a slit wide enough to fit a gift card in one triangle.

Attach triangles with double-sided tape, creating a pouch.

Using a ruler and blue ink, draw borders. Insert gift card.

  4. Ring Storage

    Hide

It's hard to keep track of small hardware such as washers, grommets, and nuts. Here's a handy way to organize them by size and type: String them on shower curtain rings. Hang the metal rings on a board above your workbench so the loose hardware will be even easier to spot.

    Lucky Plant Gift

    Hide

Wish someone an auspicious new year with a jade plant, Crassula ovata. This easy-care succulent is said to bring prosperity.

To wrap the pot, place it on a square sheet of decorative paper. Bring up two opposite corners, and secure to the pot with double-sided tape.

Fold the other two flaps as shown; tape. Tie gold cord around the pot, and add a tag with a message.

    Jack-o'-Lantern Party Favors

    Hide

These goofy jack-o'-lanterns make sweet party favors. Print the clip art on card stock and cut out. Trim top edge with pinking shears and use invisible tape to secure it around a little bag of candy corn. Curl cloth-covered floral wire around a pencil to create a "stem," and use to close bag.
