For cheerful containers, stain pots in colors that complement their contents. Terra-cotta is very porous, so it's important to use materials that won't harm the plants, like the all-natural powdered pigments shown here.
Mix pigment with matte medium (a paint extender available at crafts and art-supply stores) to desired shade -- we combined shades of blue, purple, and white -- and add a little water to thin the paint as necessary, making it easier to apply. It's a good idea to mix a small amount first to find your perfect color, then increase the proportions for a bigger batch. Use a foam brush to coat the outside of the pots (one coat will do), then let them dry overnight. The pigments are strong and will stain your clothes, so mix and apply them carefully.
To hang a pot, just fasten a clamp-on hanger to the lip, and suspend it from a nail or screw on the wall.

Which pigment are used for this project and where do you get them?
They are cheaper to buy here http://www.ezupsystems.com/flowerpotcatch.htm

I found these pot hangers at Lowes: http://www.lowes.com/pd_105974-19192-PLANT-HANGER_4294778701__?productId=3276967&Ntt=hanger&pl=1¤tURL=%2Fpl_Garden%2BCenter_4294778701__s%3FNtt%3Dhanger&facetInfo=
If anyone finds longer ones like the ones shown, please post it, thanks!
Does anyone know where to purchase the stains? Thanks for any replies and have a nice day.
Where is the source for the "clamp on hangers". We don't have them in any garden or hardware shop. Tried online search but still haven't found that type. MS, please be specific, manufacturer name, item #, website, etc. Thanks
Any good art store should carry this brand of pigment : http://www.jacquardproducts.com/
My question is, why does MS.com provide a comment area when they do not answer the questions?
Yes, please provide source(s) for the natural pigment. Thanks!
Where do you get the "natural pigments"?
Where do you get the clamp on hangers?
These brackets are great. I found them at a home and garden show a few years back. I think they were from a company in England.
I did a quick check on the web and they're called Chelsea Flower Pot Hangers. I found them on Amazon.
I also found these which look like they would work too:

Happy Hanging!
Martha wouldn't approve of fake flowers. No way no how.
I get an email from a company called, "Gardener's Suppy." They have tons of good things in there and probably would have the brackets. The garden centers near my home have nothing of the sort. Just plants and containers.
I love this idea, but because I have a balcony I need to be careful of the weight I put on it, and so I have to use plastic or faux-terracotta pots. As they don't come in any colour other than green or terracotta, I'd love to be able to paint them. Does anyone have any idea what kind of paint would work best on plastic?
Where can you find the clamp-on hangers for the pots. Definitely want to try this!!!
I have been doing this for several years. This is such an easy way to color cordinate your garden or also use them in your house. If you get tired of the colors you can just paint over them with a different color. It is a thrifty project because the pots are very cheap. You can also dress them up by using several colors or put the paint on with a sponge for extra texture.
This is such a wonderful Idea! Now I know how to dress up my plain 'Ole patio door! I think I would put fake flowers in so no watering and no dieing plants! Love this idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
any garden center will have them or will know how to get them for you. Most only hold clay pots though.
Please identify a vendor for the hanging brackets!
I wish you would sell difficult to find items such as these brackets on your website as part of the this particular how-to window (and others). Please consider this. Thanks

I'm having difficulty finding the clamp-on hanger. Do you have a source to reference?
WHEN YOU ARE DONE PAINTING THEM SPRAY THEM WITH CLEAR VARNISH!
That will help to make the color last a LOT longer. Water can make the paint run, and heat and water can make them crack and peel. Hince the need for the clear varnish.

Where can you buy these clay pot hangers?
This is great ! What an inexpenseive way to dress up older containers, and hang them in an area that is dull and needs a "face lift".
