For even wear and a longer life, a mattress should be flipped four times a year (alternating between end-over-end and side-over-side rotation). Hotels keep track by marking each end of a mattress: one says "January" (right side up) and "April" (upside down), the other "October" (right side up) and "July" (upside down). Whenever one of those months rolls around, adjust the mattress so that the appropriate month's name is right side up at the foot of the bed.

They stopped making flip-able mattresses 10 years ago. If you still have one, it's definitely time to replace.
The last mattress I purchased, not a pillow top, said to rotate weekly. For our mattress there is so much wear, not because two of is share this bed, but our kids now teens have pointed out all the things they remember about our bed... like the Saturday mornings everyone would pile into the bed or time all three of them, along with the dog were jumping on it like a trampoline. Better a worn out bed full of good memories, then an empty mattress that looks good ~M
doesn't work also if you have a soft top-pillow mattress - the kind that you can turn upside down (flip over completely) - only perhaps end over end...
this page business is do-able when you're rolling the mattress left side over right. but when you get to the bottom flipped over to the top, where's the "tag" go? if you have the tage at the same end, they'll disappear when you flip the bottom to the top. so much for that idea.

But what about the pillow tops!!?? I hear they don't last as long because we can't flip them.....I should have thought about THAT before we purchased one......
