Here's an easy way to give new life to old terra-cotta pots you have around the shed: Paint them to create coordinating stripes. Using masking tape in various widths, mark a simple striped design on the pot. In a well-ventilated area, spray the exterior and the rim (and any accompanying saucers) with weatherproof spray paint; let dry completely. Peel off tape.

The taper in the pots makes it far more difficult than it looks. Masking tape does NOT make a straight line on a pot. You're better off to use a lazy Susan and draw a line with a pencil resting on something that is the height you want.. Taping may work once you have a reference line. Another way to do it is to form a cylinder out of newspaper that is the same diameter as the pot where you want a line. Start at the top of the pot and move and resize the cylinder as you move down.
At the garden center I go to, they always have different sizes of terra-cotta pots on the clearance wagon. I grab them up for less than half price. I'm doing this application on them today. Can't wait! What a great idea!
or around the sides........................
Just don't paint or seal the bottom.........
Just be advised that painting the clay pot removes the characteristics of clay pots (porousness, breathing, water release).
What a great idea...I have so many clay pots..this is a good way to "fancy" them up a bit.
It is probably a brand like "Krylon" which is and indoor/outdoor spray paint. I have used this on my ceramic pots and it works nicely.
Love it - but what brands are weatherproof spray paint? I love the colors above, what are they? Thanks!
Love it!!
Easy and cute... a great way to spice up terra-cotta pots!
