Project

See-Through Valentines

Introduction

A gift of cookies or sweets becomes extra tempting when packaged in a transparent envelope that lets the goodies show through.

Materials

  • 2 sheets glassine paper
  • Sewing kit
  • Scalloping shears

Steps

  1. Step 1

To make an envelope, cut out two sheets of glassine paper; make one sheet longer than the other to allow for a flap.

  2. Step 2

Sew pieces together by hand or machine, 1/2 inch from the sides and bottom, and cut along the edges with scalloping shears; fold over the flap, creasing it with your fingers.

  3. Step 3

Whether you buy or make your envelopes, experiment with different embellishments to make them unique: The tiny packet is sealed with a heart-shaped Red Hot candy; an eraser stamped card personalizes the red packet.

Where can you buy glassine??? I can not find it anywhere!

I cannot find a local shop/store that sells 'glassine' paper... i've only found the envelopes. I used vellum, which incidentally, i added a design with a pin, but i would like to use the glassine.

For smaller heart designs, cut shape from "eraser head" of pencil

I like that you can adapt this craft to other holidays. :) Christmas...Easter...change your trim/colors, and you're all set.:)
