Observing Snowflakes

Martha Stewart Kids, Holiday 2003

They say no two are alike, but have you ever tried to see for yourself? To catch flakes for up-close examination, you need a strip of black velvet. Place it in the freezer for 10 minutes (this will keep snowflakes from melting when they land). Hold it taut under a snowfall. Look at the snowflakes you've caught under a magnifying glass to study their patterns.
