April Fools' Trick: Blue Water

Created By: Laura Regensdorf

Introduction

Turn the kitchen sink into a blue lagoon with nontoxic dye pellets, designed to tint children's bathwater. When the water is turned on, the burst of color will be short-lived yet shocking.

Steps

  1. Step 1

Unscrew the cap on the faucet, and set a couple of the colored tabs inside before replacing it.

This sounds like it would be fun with a lot of different colors. Maybe hot pink water? :)

  • divamom 3 Apr, 2009

I would hesitate to use the Easter Egg dye kits-they might stain.

  • eppsplace 2 Apr, 2009

The tablets that come in the Easter egg dying kits (and are less than $1) work great too. They can be found everywhere at thi time .

Crayola bath tablets are also available at Wal-Mart.

I l love this idea!! Personally, I think it is never too late for a fun prank to make your family laugh. Who said we can only make fun, silly memories for our kids on April Fool's Day?

  • ljom 2 Apr, 2009

Another idea for next year -- add just a little bleach to the toilet bowl (water must be clear with none of those cleaners) just before you go to bed the night before April Fools. When someone goes the next morning the water turns green. Great to play on husbands. No bad fumes either. The guys freak out.

The original comment was correct--timely information is needed if you have to go buy something. The note said the color tabs are available at the Crayola store. Now I dont' know where you live, but there isn't a Crayola store near me at all so that would have been fun to do, but not if the info was too late to do anything about. It's like a Christmas idea on January 30, nice but kind of useless. Maybe you could have kindly written that to 1Toffy instead of your sarcasm.

  • DreamingInFullColor 2 Apr, 2009

This is cool, but I guess that it is too late now... Oh well, next year!

  • skidmoca 1 Apr, 2009

    My thoughts exactly!

  • 1Toffy 1 Apr, 2009

Sure would have been nice if this came a few days ago....so we could have planned for it.

  • britania70 1 Apr, 2009

I think its fabulous , if only i had those in Greece.
Mrs Martha, should you consider opening a branch in my country too?
    think it over

If there is a Dollar tree near you they sell these fizzing tablets. You could also try the pharmacy and get the kind that you give kids to chew so they can see where they miss when brushing their teeth. it would create red water. and egg dyeing tablets, food coloring, and koolaid will all color your skin for a few days. so I would skip those unless you don't mind the objects of your prank running around with colored hands for a few days.

  • redparrot53 1 Apr, 2009

You could use a small piece of paper towel with UNSWEETENED Kool Aid powder inside for the same effect...

  • Sheffs 1 Apr, 2009

This is wonderful! I will have to do this to my 25 yr old son!!

  • irishsooner 1 Apr, 2009

    GREAT IDEA!!!

  • JKMc 1 Apr, 2009

Oh shucks. My boys love these in their baths at a treat and we just used the last tablet in the container last week!

  • hawaiianatheart 1 Apr, 2009

After a check online I found something similar in stock at Walmart. The name is: 123 Sesame Street: Fizzy Tub Colors Water Coloring Tablets You can check on their website to see if it is available in your area. Hope this helps others.

  • hawaiianatheart 1 Apr, 2009

I'm going to try to find them at my local Walmart (or similar store) and put it in the faucet for when they go brush their teeth before bed as a final prank for the day!

  • ChristianRosito 1 Apr, 2009

I would recommend this idea with a red tablet for Halloween, so it looks like blood.

  • Cheryllion 1 Apr, 2009

I would think that one suggestion of powdered Jell-o would be really messy, gunky and sticky.

... And there's no reason you can't say "April Fool" on April 2nd or 3rd! No one will fine you! :)

  • HotGranny 1 Apr, 2009

As long as you don't wait until April 2nd, it's NEVER too late to play an innocent trick for April Fool pranksters. The day is young - have a go at it! Lighten up! It's all in fun, anyway. Should you decide to do it AFTER the 1st, just don't say
"April Fool!" afterward..... because then who's the fool?? Other April Fool prank suggestions have appeared recently and I think they're great!

  • abbywarm 1 Apr, 2009

I have these tablets and have found them at Meijer, Wal-Mart and other places like that. Great prank!

  • Shysnana 1 Apr, 2009

Never to late to play a harmless prank on the kiddies. It's all in fun and just think of the giggles. lol The best sound in the world is the laughter of a child.

  • HotGranny 1 Apr, 2009

Would Easter egg coloring tablets work as well?

  • barbjz 1 Apr, 2009

The day is not over. If you have some extra time (I know that is rare), find the pellets and have it in place this afternoon.

  • cuttingup 1 Apr, 2009

How about some powdered Jello? If you have a screen in the faucet cap, maybe that would work.

  • purplestardust101 1 Apr, 2009

I think this is a GREAT trick to pull on some little ones, can you imagine the look on their faces when they turn on the faucets and see colored water? LOL...TOTALLY COOL Martha!!

  • Sissy 1 Apr, 2009

twinkiesgrandmother, you're wound a bit tight, eh? no one said anything negative about the trick itself---just gentle hints that an april fool's trick idea that needs a prop to be ordered from a website might well be given a bit in advance! BUT if someone HAD had a negative comment, this is the place for it---that's why it's called "contributors' comments", not "positive comments only"! ease up---and i hope the world goes easy on you today.

  • jurziegurl48 1 Apr, 2009

Thank you Twinkiesgrandmother! ~ I agree that the comments display way too much negative criticism! If you don't like a posting then just pass it by! People should spend their overabundant, negative energy on useful, constructive projects. After all, your mom was right...she must have known my mom! lol No one here is forced to try Martha's ideas...jeez!

  • Bodecea 1 Apr, 2009

hmmm... I don't see anyone saying they disliked Martha's hints. I think you exaggerate a bit much there! They make valid points and suggestions.

  • chalkwarebyLea 1 Apr, 2009

Twinkiesgrandmother...... I agree...My mom and you mom must have been related.
Some just don't have enough to do so they feel the need to be negative. Happy frinds day to you.... Lea

  • Twinkiesgrandmother 1 Apr, 2009

OMG...it is almost a travesty to read the comments--if you people dislike Martha's hints so much, why look at the them, you can delete them at anytime and not have the appear in your mailbox. My mother said, if you can't say something nice, then just don't say it! Once is enough!

  • jenniferhall1027 1 Apr, 2009

Easter egg tablets might stain your sink.

  • kandahudson 1 Apr, 2009

Wonder if easter egg dye tablets would work??
    hmmmm...might give it a whirl! ;-)

  • hauptlycathy 1 Apr, 2009

Great idea but too late in sending it. Maybe next year.

  • pelican66 1 Apr, 2009

this reminded me of the scene in Private Benjamin when they put a pack of Rit Dye in the showerhead of their hated commander....lol.

  • diva_nj 1 Apr, 2009

Oh my goodness NO eye dying tablets....they STAIN

  • kathy36 1 Apr, 2009

Great idea but I agree a little late in sending it

  • Melodie1974 1 Apr, 2009

I agree with finlander ! Not good management !

  • Naturally_Good 1 Apr, 2009

Could you use the tablets from the easter egg coloring kits?

  • jmenini 1 Apr, 2009

Maybe I"ll be able to do this next year!

  • finlander 1 Apr, 2009

Would have been nice to get this trick a week ago instead of ON April Fools Day! Thanks anyway, better luck next year? HAHA
