Embellish a Cookbook

Organizing Good Things 2005, October 2005

For a pencil holder, glue a wide grosgrain ribbon across middle of inside back cover. Place pencil on top, then glue the ribbon back onto itself, creating a loop. For a bookmark, glue narrow ribbon along spine edge, leaving excess to dangle from bottom. Attach an envelope slightly smaller than the back endpaper over both ribbons, for keeping recipes and notes.

I love these ideas and find the photos and instructions quite clear. All three will be incorporated into a journal I am currently making for a dear friend. I'm altering a purchased spiral bound notebook and know she will find these additions quite useful. Thank you for the fabulous ideas, I've used many of them. :D

If you right click on the photo you can save it to your desktop and enlarge it there. Or you could just make your screen larger by hitting "ctrl" and rolling your mouse wheel forward. If you don't have a mouse wheel then look at the right bottom corner of your screen - there's a magnifying glass. If you click on that you can change your zoom level up or down.

I don't understand your problem concerning the size of any of the pictures. Any image I want to enlarge, I just move it to my desktop then I can choose to enlarge or re-size to whatever I want. So simple. All of Martha's pictures are jpeg files. I have a MAC, not sure about those PC's. They must be able to do the same thing....

I agree prettyparty, the how-to is confusing and I can't see what I need to do.

When demonstrating a craft project, it's best to show your audience a large, clear picture of the finished project. We like to see what we're aiming for. If you're going to use small pictures "thumbnails" like these, please link them to larger, clearer photos.

For a mutiple ribbon bookmark, cut a piece of plastic canvas the width of the spine and weave a 12 inch length of ribbon 1 or two inches down the canvas. Slip the plastic canvas between the cover and the spine with the long ribbons available to place in the book at your favorite spots. My Joy of Cooking came with two red ribbons and I added six more with this method. I also use it for other types of books I may refer back to in the future, especially if I want to find a quote quickly.
