Store snapshots from a vacation or special occasion in a box that displays its theme. Remove contents of two identical wooden picture frames. Paint the frames; when dry, align them back to back; attach small hinges. Using the cardboard backing as a template, cut two pieces of cork. For box lid, reinstall the glass, then your photo, and the cardboard; adjust pins. Attach cork to cardboard with double-sided carpet tape; for the bottom of the box, glue second piece of cork inside frame.

I've seen and purchased boxes that are very similar to this in craft stores, including ones with a glass top for a photo. They are generally inexpensive and can be decorated with paint, stain, woodburning or any method you choose and would be a whole lot less work. I would recommend you check the hinges because some of them are not put together as well as others. They come in at least two sizes that I have seen so you could store larger photos or perhaps postcards in the larger size.
It isn't a picture frame, it's a box to keep photos in
This seems like a really neat idea. I have seen thin 12X12 sheets of cork in the scrapbooking paper section of a craft store, so I wonder if that would be more likely to be acid free, etc. and safe for storing photos.
This look like a Shadow box, not a picture-frame.
